Postcards Series Greetings from The Arafura Sea.The 10 images
in this series were taken by Australian Navy personnel during
the infamous children overboard incident.The Australian government
claimed that so called 'boat people' cynically threw their children
overboard from a refugee ship evading the Australian navy. The
truth was that the ship was sinking very quickly and all the refugees
had to abandon the ship while it was under tow by the Australian
navy. The Australian Government used the xenophobic fears of many
Australians wrapped in flag and national security rhetoric to
make cheap political mileage. These postcards are in no way meant
to reflect negatively on australian navy personnel who risked
their personal safety to assist the asylum seekers. |
